Michael Flynn Is in the News (and Lying) Again
At the bizarre QAnon conference in Dallas over the weekend, Michael Flynn, the retired national security advisor who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI in 2017, was asked why a Myanmar-style coup couldn’t happen in the U.S. “No reason. I mean, it should happen here,” he clearly responded to the crowd’s delight. See footage of the comment here. Ignore your eyes and ears: Now, Flynn and several of former President Donald Trump’s biggest supporters are saying he didn’t say exactly what came out of his mouth. “Let me be VERY CLEAR - There is NO reason whatsoever for any coup in America, and I do not and have not at any time called for any action of that sort. Any reporting of any other belief by me is a boldface fabrication,” Flynn later lied on encrypted messaging app Telegram. Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia as part of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. In November 2020, Trump granted Flynn a full pardon.
